Dermal Fillers
As you hit the beautiful Miami beaches, the last things you want to worry about are wrinkles, fine lines, and areas of volume loss in your face. However, these are all naturally occurring effects of age. While these skin imperfections can be frustrating, especially on the face, non-surgical cosmetic treatments like dermal fillers can help revitalize and rejuvenate your facial appearance.
Dermal fillers work by literally filling in areas of volume loss to reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles while also restoring volume to areas of the face, such as the cheeks, around the nose and mouth, and under the eyes.
How Is a Dermal Filler Treatment Performed?
Your consultation is one of the most important aspects of your dermal filler treatment. At your dermal filler consultation, you will be able to discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals. Your provider will evaluate your condition to determine which filler(s) are best for you.
For your treatment, your provider will inject the dermal filler solution under your skin to increase volume in the target area. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is found in most dermal fillers. HA attracts and retains moisture, so when it is injected in the skin, the added moisture will naturally increase volume.
This non-invasive procedure usually takes anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour to perform and does not generally require anesthesia. Most dermal fillers contain lidocaine to help promote comfort.
It is important to understand that there is no single type of dermal filler. Instead, there are many different fillers that each work in specific ways to treat particular issues in various places of the face and body.
Dr. Hadeed focuses on individualized attention and care, providing education and guidance, and ultimately developing a plan for the most successful and safe outcome.
Schedule A ConsultationWhat Will My Dermal Filler Recovery Be Like?
One of the best parts of dermal filler treatments is that there is little to no downtime required. The recovery process generally lasts one to two days and consists of some swelling, bruising, and soreness at the injection site.
Most men and women are able to return to their natural, daily activities immediately following their injections, which means that you can get your dermal filler treatment on your lunch break and return to work that same day.
It is recommended that you refrain from any strenuous activity for 24 to 48 hours after your treatment. If needed, you can apply cold compresses to the injection areas and take medication to reduce any pain or discomfort you may experience.
What Results Can I Expect From Dermal Fillers?
With the exception of Sculptra® Aesthetic, you should be able to see noticeable improvements to the appearance of your skin immediately after your treatment. Your skin will be smoother, erasing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and areas of volume loss will be filled in to create a more natural and youthful aesthetic.
Over the next few days, you will see your skin’s appearance improve. Because Sculptra® Aesthetic works by promoting collagen production, you will see your results around six weeks after your treatment.
It is important to note that the results from dermal fillers are temporary, lasting anywhere from six months to two years. This means that you will need to have regular maintenance injections for continuous results.
Keeping a healthy lifestyle (regular exercise, a balanced diet, and proper skin care routine, including staying out of direct sunlight and wearing sunscreen) can help prolong your stunning results.
Frequently Asked Questions About Dermal Fillers
Am I a candidate for dermal filler treatments?
If you are frustrated with the presence of wrinkles or fine lines on your face, or you are upset because your face has lost the volume it once had, then dermal fillers may be the answer for you.
Ideal candidates for dermal filler treatments are non-smoking men and women, who are in good general health and have realistic expectations for their results.
Can I combine my dermal fillers with other treatments or procedures?
Because each dermal filler works on a specific area of the face, many patients combine different fillers in their treatment to achieve a more dynamic and complete rejuvenation.
Additionally, some patients choose to combine their dermal filler treatment with other injectable treatments, such as neuromodulators (BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®), which temporarily relax muscles that cause wrinkles to form on the upper portion of the face.
What are the risks associated with dermal fillers?
Though rare, every cosmetic procedure carries some risks. For dermal fillers, these risks include:
- Asymmetry
- Bruising
- Bleeding from the injection site
- Swelling
- Skin damage, including possible scaring
- Infection
- Palpability of the filler under the surface of the skin
